Short description of our selection
We have chosen the damascene selection of the main damascene art factories. This factorieshave artisans devoted to maintain the damascene art. We have also included the work of local Toledo artisans, created according to the tradition.
The artisan stripes the steel so it can hold the gold stripes. Afterwards, the artisan inlays the gold strand in the steel drawing shapes. With a hammer and a chisel, the artisan sets the already inlayed gold. To avoid rust in the steel, the artisan proceeds to the “pavonado” stage, where the artwork is introduced in the fire, providing the characteristic black color to the steel. Afterwards, the artisan carve the last details in the gold shapes.
Nowadays it's also common to use a handmade plate as a pattern, which is reproduced by an artisan using machinery in some or all the stages of the creation process. This leads to a simpler, faster and homogeneous process.
